The traditional use of dolls for home décor has been around for years, most commonly seen in Europe and in the United States. Dolls become a part of the environment we call home and over time bonds are formed between us and the dolls. Dolls reconnect us with childlike naivety and happiness, which ultimately takes us back to our sweet childhood memories. This popular trend of doll design spread to Israel only in the recent years. As a result, Michal Negrin decided to launch a limited edition doll collection, by the name of She-Shy because of the doll's femininity and shyness.
Michal Negrin: "Since I can remember, I've been a doll collector. The dolls I collect all have characters, simple yet exciting, with humor and emotion. For a long time I searched for a doll of my own and worked with other designers to try to create one but we weren't successful. Until one day I met her…shy yet daring, she caught my eye. Something about her personality sparked a sense of identification within me and immediately formed a personal connection between the two of us. I also quickly realized that this doll is unique in a way that allows everyone to relate to her so I decided that I need to give her a life of her own.
The first doll was used as a model and from the model we replicated more dolls, identical in shape but different in their personalities. Each one was hand-painted, "dressed", and embellished and that is what makes each one unique. I believe that everyone can relate to these dolls and this identification with the dolls allows the child within all of us to stay alive and to bring a smile to our faces. Something special about these dolls creates a connection between us, no matter if you're a 60 year old woman or a 6 year old girl."
All of the dolls have the general name of She-Shy in addition to their personal names inspired by their given character and personality. The She-Shy doll theme is incorporated into other Michal Negrin collections including the jewelry, fashion, and accessories collections. The She-Shy doll collection is made up of six dolls, with only 250 made of each. Each doll is hand painted and numbered and comes with a 24K gold plated pendant. More dolls will be added to the collection over time.
